Hello All! I was doing some intensive studies and so was unable to devote any time to my blog. That's in the past now......so onto some sayings!
1. Magga - refers to someone or sometimes an animal that is very skinny slim or slender and looks undernourished.

Today a well known Trinidadian saying came to mind.... Today's saying is : All food good to eat but all talk ent good to talk.What does this saying mean?

Another Classic Trini Saying

Here is another classic Trini saying...'Ah go done yuh worries'. Translated accordingly 'I will done your worries'. What does this mean? It is a threat to do you (bodily) harm or kill you. The implication is that when your dead or badly damaged you won't have anything to worry about again, hence 'done yuh worries'.So when a Trini threatens to 'done yuh worries' take it seriously, it can mean the difference between life and death.

Trini Slang

The Trini language or dialect is awesome!So here is another noteworthy phrase or slang... "Who in the kitchen does feel the heat". This means only those who are going through a certain experience (e.g. unfaithful spouse) are the ones who know what it is like. Those on the outside can say what they like but they are not the ones going through it, they're not feeling the 'heat'(e.g the pain, heartbreak of the unfaithfulness in the marriage).

I recently began collecting Trini sayings and proverbs for my book. Here is a common Trini saying: He always bawling. Here 'bawling' is not referring to crying/ wailing or the like. "Bawling' here is talking about a person who is always complaining about going through hard times whether or not they are really going through tough times.

TRUE TRINI SAYINGS

Today the thought occurred to me to explore some of our true trini sayings and their sometimes not so subtle meanings. Take for instance "Seepaul luck is not Gopaul luck". What does this mean? This simply means that what one person might get away with another person may not be quite so lucky. One of my favourites is "You see the animal but you don't know the beast". This means that someone is putting up a front and showing the meek and mild side of his/her personality but that personal has not shown his/her beast qualities as yet. So think about these 2 sayings and they are quite true is every sense. For example there are things which other folks have managed to pull off but I did'nt get through and was caught.
